Hello,

I’m a PhD candidate in the Department of Government at Harvard University. I’m interested political economy, social policy, and state-society relations in the Middle East and North Africa.

My dissertation explains how authoritarian regimes implement unpopular economic reforms with the potential to be politically destabilizing. Combining interviews, government budget data, and novel survey experiments, I explore how governments in Egypt and Jordan have approached reforming subsidies on consumer commodities. You can read more in my job market paper.

I have consulted with a range of international organizations in the MENA region, including USAID, the UN, and IGC. I was a 2019-2020 Fulbright Student Fellow in Jordan, where I researched the politics of Syrian refugee labor permits.
